How To Determined Which Are the Best Pet Hair Vacuums:
In reviewing and rating the best vacuum for pet hair, we looked at the following criteria. Note how most of the vacuums above do not have the ‘pet hair vacuum’ label. This is because being labeled for pet hair is not the main reason to buy such a vacuum. The bottom line is that you need to be able to pick up the pet hair with your vacuum cleaner. In order to do this you need two things: 1) a good amount of suction power, 2) the right tools, and 3) good filtration. If you have pets that shed, make sure that you have some type of rotating brush tool for your upholstery – that is typically all a ‘pet vacuum’ has that others don’t. Yes, some vacuums will have special systems to ‘lift’ the hair up using static electricity – but that doesn’t mean it does a good job of it.
Here is how we determined the factors in our pet hair vacuum review / test:
- Suction Power – obviously, if your vacuum doesn’t suck, then you are not going to pick up any pet hair. However, don’t forget that some vacuums tend to lose suction as their bag gets full (for bagged vacuum cleaners), or as their filters get clogged. We choose the vacuums that do the best job at maintaining full suction. As you read our pet hair vacuum cleaner reviews on these models you will notice that each of them is terrific at being both powerful and maintaining that power, and doing a great job picking up hair for your pets.
- Ease of Use Rating – how easy the vacuum is to use is very important for most people. We took into account the weight of the vacuum, how easy it is to use the tools that is has, and how much maintenance is required.
- Filtration rating – if you have pets that shed then you will probably want a vacuum that keeps your air clean or cleans your air as you vacuum. HEPA filtration, sealed systems, and HEPA bags are characteristics of the top machines.
- Pet Tools – As stated above, it’s very important that you have the ability to not only pick up the pet hair off the floor but also off upholstery and stairs easily. A good vacuum for pet hair will have more than just an extension wand and crevice tool to do this – you need something that rotates and that will pick the hair up since static electricity will tend to keep it plastered to your couch.
