The Shark Navigator Upright vacuum cleaner (model NV22l) has become one of the most popular vacuums on the market today. Made by Euro-pro Operating LLC, and made popular via the As-Seen-On-Tv advertising, the Navigator upright is an excellent vacuum cleaner , and is one of the highest rated machines we have reviewed.
Our Shark Navigator Upright Review (2011)
Suction Power / Effectiveness:
For how much this costs, you will be pleasantly surprised at how much suction power this vacuum produces. When we compared it to the ever-popular Dyson DC25 All Floors model, we were actually shocked at how well it did. No, it’s not as powerful as the Dyson, but it did a great job at picking up dirt/debris from all different height-levels of carpet.
We also really like how well the Shark navigator vacuum performed on hard floor surfaces. It is very easy to switch from carpet mode to floor mode (there is a simple switch by the handle), and the suction power remains strong. In fact, you may not find a more powerful & effective vacuum cleaner in this price range.
Ease of Use:
At just 18.3 lbs, you won’t be breaking your back pushing the Navigator NV22L around your living room. In fact, the first time I used the machine I was surprised at how it felt almost self-propelled (note – it’s not self-propelled) when moving forward. It’s also very easy to vacuum both carpets and floors since you can turn off the roller brush with the flip of a switch, and the roller also turns off when the vacuum is in the complete upright position – which I like for when I’m using the extension hose, like when you are vacuuming pet hair (which this model does a great job with the roller brush attachment that comes standard).
I also found the cord length to be fine (longer than the DC25 actually), and very easy to both wind and unwind. There is also a nice little clip for the cord by the handle which keeps the cord out of the way while both vacuuming forwards and backwards.
Maintenance is also a breeze. There are a few different filters, but they are all washable-lifetime filters, so you don’t have to worry about replacing them – and you get an extra one in the box to use while the other is drying out.
The only little quirk / issue we found with the NV22L by Shark is when vacuuming stairs. It actually fits nicely on an average stair, allowing you to use the main vacuum and not the hose for vacuuming. However, the roller brush turns off when you get close to the upright position, so it took some time getting used to. Of course, you can use the roller brush attachment, which does a great job.
Filtration
While the filtration on the Shark Navigator is not HEPA, it still is pretty good. The foam filters, combined with the unique system design, keeps basically all the dust/debris both inside the machine and away from the filters. However, if you suffer from allergies, then you may want to consider either Shark’s other model – the Lift Away – or something else.
Bottom Line Shark NV22L Navigator Review:
For anyone who doesn’t want to spend more than $130 on a vacuum, this is the machine to buy. It has great power, is very easy to use, and has decent filtration…..and at its current price is a great buy.
